Undefeated Long Island Rugby Club made its way up I-95 into New England territory to square off against Boston Maccabi in the Men’s D3 Atlantic North Championship match. LIRFC came away with a decisive 52-27 win to claim the title and advance to the USA Rugby National Tournament.

Long Island struck first with a try only eight minutes into the match to take a 7-0 lead. Boston quickly countered, claiming points off of a penalty kick and making the score, 7-3, after the first ten minutes. For the rest of the first half, Long Island used its dynamic attack strategy to earn four more tries and hold a 33-3 lead over Boston at the end of forty minutes.

After the half, Long Island scored a quick try four minutes in, but were marred by three consecutive tries from Boston due to flawless possession ball and great runs from their back line. Long Island held on to the lead and extended it with another try at minute seventy, followed by a quick response from Boston with a try just over a minute later.

That would be it for Boston as Long Island was able to kill the clock with a seven-minute possession and end the game with a walk-in try at full time.

Long Island will face Fort Wayne Rugby Club of Indiana in the first round of the USA Rugby D3 Elite 8 on May 18 in Obetz, OH.
